Delhi Police are stepping up security as the city prepares for the festive season. The Commissioner’s office launched a city‑wide patrol and vehicle‑checking drive to keep residents safe during the upcoming holidays.
From midnight until 4 am, police officers are out on the streets on a coordinated “night patrol” plan. Roughly 600 officers from all ranks have joined the effort, setting up 45‑to‑50 patrol pickets across the capital. Key areas such as Civil Lines, Defence Colony, ITO, and the South District are under intense watch.
“Together, we’re checking every vehicle and stopping suspicious traffic,” said Police Commissioner Satish Golcha. Senior officers from the Southern Range, including SK Jain, explained that the patrol campaign is carried out every month, but the festive period sees extra rounds of checks. Vehicles with tinted windows, missing number plates or other violations are issued challans on the spot.
The city’s West and East districts have integrated pickets at each police station, while a permanent checkpoint has been set up at Uttam Nagar terminal in the Dwarka area—one of the busiest traffic hubs in Delhi. The focus is not only on traffic violations but also on catching known criminals, according to DCPs in the respective districts.
“The goal is to make every Delhi resident feel safer during the celebrations,” said DCP Ankit Chauhan. His team’s 60 bikes are roving the South District, ready to respond to any incident.
Police officials urge citizens to stay alert and report suspicious activity. The overnight patrols, combined with vehicle checks, aim to keep the capital secure while people enjoy the festive season.
