Hyderabad, Oct 19 – Telangana’s Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, said the “draconian” Dharani Act passed by the previous BRS government was the main reason the party lost power. The comment came during a ceremony in which the CM handed out appointment letters to new Revenue Surveyors.
Revanth Reddy explained that when the Congress took office, it cancelled the Dharani Act to protect farmers from losing ownership rights on their lands. “The people of Telangana voted the BRS out because of the Dharani Act,” he told the crowd. He added that the government had promised to repeal the law and fulfilled that pledge quickly after winning the election.
The CM talked about the long history of land struggles in Telangana. He said the armed resistance of peasants aimed to break the hold of landlords and that “land is a beloved mother” to all. “We must ensure land rights for everyone,” he urged.
Revanth Reddy also criticized the former administration for not publishing job notifications. “Our government is filling all vacancies through open notifications,” he said. “Every unemployed person sees a future now. That’s why people are happy.”
At the ceremony, the CM asked the newly appointed surveyors to respect landowners’ rights and determine accurate boundaries. He warned that mistakes would not be tolerated: “The government will hold officials accountable.” He emphasized that cooperative work could help Telangana reach a $3 trillion economy by 2047 and urged surveyors to be partners in the state’s development.
“Farmers are the backbone of our country,” the CM concluded. “All of us—surveyors, government officials, farmers—must stand together as we move Telangana toward this ambitious goal.”
