Udupi, Karnataka – BJP leader B.L. Santhosh raised alarms about an ongoing ideological attack on Dharmasthala, a key Hindu pilgrimage site in Karnataka. Speaking at the foundation stone laying for a new district BJP office in Udupi on Friday, Santhosh warned that such assaults are spreading to other sacred spots.
“They’ve tasted blood before,” Santhosh said, pointing to similar controversies at Sabarimala, Isha Ashram, and Shani Shingnapur. “Now they’re targeting Dharmasthala with the same ideological politics.” He added that three years ago, Udupi Krishna Mutt faced a comparable attack, and he predicted Moodbidri could be next.
Santhosh called for strong action. “Those behind these attacks must face punishment, along with anyone spreading false propaganda,” he urged the crowd. “We need to pledge in this new office to fight back.”
He framed the issue as bigger than any single person or temple. “This is an assault on our Hindu faith, our beliefs, and our traditions,” Santhosh stressed. He listed key targets: cows, the family system, core values, and pilgrimage centers across India.
Santhosh also touched on false rumors against the Kumbh Mela, where critics spread fears of nonexistent diseases. “But our faith is rock-solid,” he said. “After those claims, devotee numbers surged by millions. We’ll tackle this challenge directly – our society is strong, and we’ll defend our nation and culture firmly.”
Shifting to BJP’s role, Santhosh praised the party’s deep roots, tracing back to the Bharatiya Jana Sangh days. “We grow like a tree: strong roots lead to branches and trunks,” he explained. He highlighted how leaders from other parties have joined and strengthened BJP ideologically and politically.
“Every political group needs roots, new shoots, and even grafts to adapt to changing times,” Santhosh noted. In Udupi district, he credited direct and indirect contributors – from moral supporters to hands-on workers – for building the party’s current strength.
District BJP President Kuthyar Naveen Shetty, MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, State General Secretary and MLA V. Sunil Kumar, and others attended the event.
