In the heart of Tamil Nadu’s buzzing political scene, AMMK chief T.T.V. Dhinakaran has fired a fresh salvo at AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Dhinakaran mocked Palaniswami for seemingly hiding his face with a white towel as he left Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence in Delhi. “Why cover your face after meeting the Home Minister? Who are you fooling?” Dhinakaran asked during a lively press conference in Chennai on Wednesday.
He didn’t hold back, dubbing Palaniswami “Masked Palaniswami” and predicting a big loss for him in the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections. “People won’t fall for this anymore,” Dhinakaran added, tapping into the growing unrest within AIADMK.
This drama unfolds against a backdrop of deepening AIADMK internal crisis. It all kicked off when senior leader and former minister K.A. Sengottaiyan demanded the party bring back expelled members, giving a strict 10-day deadline. Palaniswami hit back hard by removing Sengottaiyan from key posts, which only fueled the factional fights.
Sengottaiyan wasted no time and headed straight to Delhi, where he met Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. That sparked rumors about the BJP meddling in AIADMK’s troubles. With the deadline ticking down, Palaniswami also jetted off to the capital. Reporters at Chennai airport grilled him on the trip, but he looked uncomfortable and stayed tight-lipped.
In Delhi, Palaniswami first paid respects to the newly elected Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan. Later that evening, he visited Amit Shah’s home, joined by heavyweights like former ministers S.P. Velumani, Dindigul Srinivasan, K.P. Munusamy, and MPs M. Thambidurai, C.V. Shanmugam, and I.S. Inbadurai.
The real fireworks came from a viral video showing Palaniswami slipping out of Shah’s house late at night in a car, towel over his face. The clip spread like wildfire across Tamil Nadu, igniting speculation and giving ammo to rivals like Dhinakaran to poke fun.
To counter the buzz, Palaniswami shared photos of his meeting with Amit Shah on social media the next morning. He said he pushed for the Bharat Ratna award for freedom fighter Muthuramalinga Thevar—a big icon in the region. But he dodged questions on other topics they discussed, leaving everyone guessing.
As AIADMK battles rebellion from within and whispers of BJP influence grow louder, this “masked exit” episode has turned into a major talking point. It’s adding fuel to Tamil Nadu’s already electric political atmosphere, with everyone watching closely for the next twist.
