Big Drug Bust in Kolkata: DRI Cracks Down on Illegal Narcotics Network
Kolkata’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team pulled off a major win against drug trafficking on September 12. In a coordinated crackdown, officers targeted three spots early in the morning: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) Airport and two houses in Jadavpur’s Bijoygarh area.
At the first house, owned by the main suspect, DRI found a stash of hydroponic weed, cannabis, and cocaine. The second spot, a rented place run by the same mastermind, held a massive amount of cannabis, all packed up and ready for sale in Kolkata. Four workers helping distribute the drugs locally got caught right there. Officers also grabbed cash from both houses—money made from selling these illegal substances.
On the same day, they nabbed another syndicate member who lined up suppliers from abroad.
Meanwhile, at NSCBI Airport in Dum Dum, the team stopped four passengers—including three women—from Bangkok. A search turned up more narcotics in their bags.
In total, this operation seized 32.466 kg of cannabis (ganja), 22.027 kg of hydroponic weed, and 345 grams of cocaine, plus some cash. Ten people, all Indian nationals, faced arrest: the mastermind, international carriers, local sellers, and go-betweens. They appeared in court for remand under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Investigations continue as DRI works to break up the entire drug trafficking network across India. This bust shows their strong push to keep streets safe from illegal drugs.
