The Rajasthan electricity company re‑connected power to the home of RLP leader and MP Hanuman Beniwal in Nagaur on Friday evening after a new court order.
The Discom’s super‑engineering head, Ashok Chaudhary, said the double bench of the Rajasthan High Court had tweaked an earlier directive and now requires a Rs 4 lakh bank guarantee before the connection can be restored. The order, issued on 10 October, only reached the Discom on Friday.
Power had been cut almost three months after the resident’s brother, Premsukh Beniwal, deposited Rs 2 lakh in March. The MP had said the disconnection was “unjustified.” The court had first ordered a Rs 6 lakh up‑front payment, but the appeal in front of a double bench now gives the quality of reconnection on providing a Rs 4 lakh guarantee.
Chaudhary added that the bank guarantee can be used by the Discom after the settlement process, which the court has said must be finished within 15 days. The dispute at the heart of the case is an unpaid electricity bill of about Rs 11 lakh for the MP’s Nagaur residence.
MP Beniwal said he had to run a generator for more than 100 days while the disconnection was pending, and accused the utility of delaying the court‑ordered reconnection. The Discom’s final move to restore service follows the court’s clear instruction that the supply be returned once the security deposit is in place.
