Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Minister Mohan Yadav told a crowd in Ujjain that people with disabilities—known locally as “divyang”—never need to feel less than anyone else. “God has given them special abilities,” he said.

He recalled the ancient sage Maharshi Ashtavakra, who was himself a divyang but defeated every opponent in debates because of his wisdom. Yadav added that the human body reflects the universe and that helping others is the same as serving God.

The speech took place at a distribution camp for divyang people held at the Kalidas Academy in Ujjain. CM Yadav handed out scooters, specialized tricycles and walking sticks. He explained that motorized wheelchairs and scooters can make everyday life and jobs easier for people with disabilities.

During Seva Saptah (Service Week), the state is giving out assistive devices to 146 divyang families. The items worth ₹1.25 crore include electric scooters, hearing aids, walking sticks and wheelchairs. The chief minister also gave the keys to six municipal councils—Makdon, Unhel, Nagda, Khachrod, Tarana and Badnagar—to use the scooters for public service.

“Assisting the divyang is not just human service; it brings spiritual satisfaction,” Yadav said. He urged all divyang citizens to recognize their strengths, work hard and succeed in life.
