Jammu, Nov 22 (LatestNewsX) – Officers in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir announced on Saturday that they have seized a drug dealer’s property valued at ₹60 lakh.
In a statement, Police Station Surankote said it had taken control of a house owned by the notorious drug peddler Sajjad Hussain Shah, the son of Sarfraz Hussain Shah from Potha, Tehsil Surankote. “The property, valued at approximately Rs 60 lakh, has been seized/freezed under the provisions of the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators (Forfeiture of Property) Act – SAFEMA,” the statement read. The individual has a long history of NDPS offences in the area and is currently being held in District Jail Udhampur pending PIT‑NDPS proceedings.
The attachment represents part of a sustained crackdown on drug traffickers in the region. “District Police Poonch has been tirelessly acting against narcotics networks and has, in recent months, attached properties worth several crores of rupees belonging to drug peddlers and their associates,” the statement added. It also noted that multiple bank accounts with suspicious and disproportionate transactions have been frozen as part of the financial investigations aimed at dismantling the drug‑trade support system.
The police reaffirmed its commitment to a drug‑free society, urging the public to keep reporting any information on drug trafficking or related criminal activity. Across Jammu and Kashmir, security forces continue aggressive operations against terrorists, their supporters, drug smugglers, Hawala operators, and other unlawful actors. It is believed that the proceeds from these illicit activities ultimately finance terrorism in the region. The revised strategy seeks to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem rather than focusing solely on armed militants.
