Dweep Diksha Dialogue highlights Andaman and Nicobar Command’s role as maritime strategic hub
India’s top military leader, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, stressed the crucial role of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) in protecting the country’s interests across the Indo-Pacific region. He shared these thoughts during a two-day dialogue in Sri Vijaya Puram, the hub of India’s only operational joint services command.
The event, themed “Evolution of ANC as a Strategic Hub and Beyond,” brought experts together to talk about cutting-edge ideas like future-ready operations, cognitive and cyber warfare, strategic signaling, and how India can become a top security partner in the area. Organizers held the third edition of the Dweep Diksha Dialogue from September 19 to 20, focusing heavily on multi-domain warfare, grey-zone tactics, and maritime security in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
This gathering united top figures from the armed forces, diplomacy, academia, media, and strategic experts to explore ANC’s vital part in shaping India’s maritime and overall security strategy. Leading the discussions were Commander-in-Chief ANC Lieutenant General Dinesh Singh Rana and Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lieutenant Governor Admiral D.K. Joshi. Other key voices included retired Admiral Arun Prakash, the first CINCAN and former Chief of Naval Staff; retired Lieutenant General Ajai Singh, a past CINCAN; retired Rear Admiral Monty Khanna; Deputy Chief of the Army Staff (Strategic) Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai; and retired Vice Admiral Anil Chawla.
More than just talks, the dialogue sparked deeper conversations among active officers, veterans, analysts, and thinkers on strengthening India’s position in the Indo-Pacific. Launched in 2023, the Dweep Diksha Dialogue shows how ANC has transformed from a remote outpost into a lively center for ideas and action. It boosts professional military training, tests new operations, and strengthens teamwork across India’s armed services.
In the end, these sessions position ANC as a key pillar for India’s national goals in the IOR, helping steer the nation’s maritime strategy for years ahead.
