Jammu and Kashmir has seen a big police sweep this week as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) searched six sites linked to a narco‑terror funding case. The ED’s Jammu office announced that the operation covered two locations in Jammu and four in the Kashmir region, including the home of former MLA Jatinder Singh — also known as Babu Singh — in Kathua.

The raid follows a March 2022 arrest in which police stopped a man named Mohd Shareef Shah. He was caught trying to move 6.9 lakh rupees in hawala cash from Kashmir to Babu Singh. Police say the money was intended to support separatist and secessionist groups in the area.

Investigators say the case uncovered a wider network. It includes suspects Saif Din, Farooq Ahmed Naikoo, Mubashir Mushtaq Fatoo and others, who allegedly worked with Pakistani operatives. According to the ED, Farooq Naikoo ran a drug‑smuggling scheme that brought heroin into India, sold it in 2021‑22, and deposited the profits (over two crore rupees) into banks in Srinagar.

The money was then moved to accounts of Indian citizens working in Dubai, acting as mules to hide its origins. From there, the proceeds were routed to Hizb‑ul‑Mujahideen terrorists who operate out of Pakistan. The ED said investigations into this trail are still underway.

The police, National Investigation Agency, security forces and the ED are conducting aggressive anti‑terror operations. They target militants, over‑ground workers, sympathisers, drug smugglers, hawala operators and other people involved in illegal finance schemes. The goal is to break up the entire ecosystem that funds terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

These efforts highlight how drug trafficking, hawala money and unlawful financial activities help sustain terror groups in the region. The authorities say they will continue to dismantle this network and keep the region safer.
