New Delhi – On Friday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out raids in 12 sites spread across West Bengal, Telangana and Gujarat as part of a probe into a ₹2,700‑crore bank‑fraud case. According to officials, the ED’s Kolkata office coordinated the operation, which hit 10 locations in Kolkata, one in Hyderabad and one in Ahmedabad.
The raids focused on premises linked to the suspects. Police from each state worked closely with the ED to search for evidence of money laundering and other financial irregularities tied to a jewellery firm believed to be at the heart of the scam. Investigators examined bank‑transaction records and related documents to track how the funds were allegedly diverted and to identify the beneficiaries of the alleged fraud.
This is the latest move in a broader investigation that seeks to expose how large sums of money can be siphoned through corporate fronts and shell accounts. Officials say the search operation is still in progress across all sites and more details of the findings will be released once the forensic audit is complete.
The case highlights the ongoing crackdown on large‑scale bank fraud in India. It underscores the importance of strict regulatory oversight and the role of law‑enforcement agencies in safeguarding the country’s financial system.
