In Bengaluru on October 25, Karnataka’s Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spoke about the power of education at the opening of a new school run by the Jamia Masjid and Muslim Charitable Trust. He said that learning is the key to shaping a person’s character and breaking down social divides.

Siddaramaiah said, “Education matters for everyone—no matter your caste or religion. It gives people dignity and a chance to improve.” He echoed B.R. Ambedkar’s view that knowledge is the only way to escape social barriers. “Every Muslim child should be educated,” he added, stressing that learning is vital for personal growth and for erasing inequality.

The chief minister highlighted how the Indian Constitution opened equal education opportunities after it was enacted. “The government will keep prioritising school funding and will set up hostels for Muslim students in primary and higher primary schools,” he said, noting that more than ₹4,900 crore of the state budget is earmarked for education.

Siddaramaiah urged people to respect each other’s faiths and avoid religious hate. “Educated people see the value of unity,” he noted. He also praised the state’s guarantee schemes—Shakti, Gruhalakshmi, Annabhagya, and Gruha Jyoti—which aim to give women and lower‑community families real chances to learn.

The chief minister added that when the government announced these schemes some critics said it would bankrupt the state. “Now those schemes are working, and other states are trying to copy them,” he said.

He ended by saying that if every child in Karnataka, and all of India, receives an education, the country can build a fairer society. “We are all Indians first. Only then can we identify as Hindus, Muslims or Christians,” he told the gathered crowd, urging the nation to drop hatred and embrace love.
