Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, posted a short message on her X account on Monday to show her support for the families who lost loved ones in the blast that detonated near Delhi’s Red Fort. She said she was “deeply shocked” and offered prayers for the wounded and the bereaved.
At least ten people died after the explosion, and dozens of others were injured. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra were placed on high alert. Firefighters fired about seven water tenders and medical teams reached the blast site quickly. Police have already arrested one suspect.
The incident drew reactions from across the political spectrum. Shatorupa, a spokesperson for the West Bengal BJP, confirmed the tragedy and said the state would watch developments closely. She noted that police were quick to act and that the fire brigade and medical services were on the scene early.
Koustav Chatterjee, a leader of the CPIM, told reporters the responsibility for the incident should lie with the central government, since law and order in the national capital is handled by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He voiced frustration that the Central Intelligence Unit’s performance is being questioned, especially after recent attacks such as the Pahalgam incident.
The Red Fort blast has sparked widespread concern over security in Delhi and a call for stronger measures to protect the capital.
