UP Governor Anandiben Patel Pushes Universities for Jobs and Self-Reliance for Students
In a bold call to action, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel urged universities to do more than just teach—they must ensure students land jobs and become self-reliant. She shared these thoughts during a special event at Raj Bhavan in Lucknow on Sunday, celebrating the strong show by UP universities in the latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 rankings.
Governor Patel pointed out how innovation in every field is opening up exciting new opportunities in our fast-changing world. "Universities need to team up and make the most of their resources to keep moving ahead," she said. But she didn’t stop there. "Just giving education isn’t enough," Patel emphasized. "The real job of universities is to make students employable and independent."
To spot hidden talents, she advised universities to hold regular departmental competitions and fun activities. "Teachers, staff, and students are the true backbone of any university," she added with enthusiasm.
The Governor also shared inspiring updates from Raj Bhavan itself. They trained 22 children in playing the flute, getting them ready to perform at the Republic Day parade on January 26. Plus, they’re building a model school right on the premises. Raj Bhavan staff signed up 75 kids from nearby areas and motivated parents to prioritize education for their children.
Pushing for more action, Patel directed every university to run internal competitions in at least five departments. This will highlight top innovations and skills. "Have open chats with students and weave their ideas into university plans," she suggested. She especially highlighted women’s potential, calling on universities to tap into their skills fully. And she made it clear: all affiliated colleges should chase NAAC accreditation to boost quality.
Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Sudhir Mahadeo Bobde joined in, calling the NIRF success a huge win for Uttar Pradesh’s higher education system. "It’s a proud moment, but now universities must tackle their weak spots head-on," he said.
This push for student employment and university innovation in UP could shape the future of education in the state—stay tuned for more updates on NIRF rankings and self-reliance initiatives.
