Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee is heading to North Bengal this month to check the party’s race‑day readiness for the 2026 state Assembly elections.
He begins his tour on November 25 in Cooch Behar and will swing through Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and North Dinajpur, the key districts that will decide whether the TMC can gain ground against the BJP in the region.
During his stops the chief will see how the “Special Intensive Revision” of West Bengal’s electoral rolls is going, visit the war rooms and 6,200 party camps set up across every Assembly constituency, and talk directly with local workers.
Party sources say Banerjee asked his booth‑level agents (BLAs) to ensure voters fill enumeration forms smoothly and that the team remains present for people through the campaign. He will give the troops clear instructions on the spot, and a separate report will be filed for each district.
There are also rumours that Banerjee might kick off a new “Trinamoole Naba Jowar” mass‑outreach drive during his North Bengal visit. The campaign – a two‑and‑a‑half‑month roll‑out of rallies, padyatras and public meetings in 2023 – helped the TMC claw back 29 of 42 Lok Sabha seats in Bengal, up from 22 in 2019.
The BJP, however, still dominates the north. In the 2021 Assembly elections it won 30 of 54 seats in the eight North Bengal districts, even while the TMC kept its state‑wide lead.
By putting a spotlight on the north this time, Banerjee hopes to turn that advantage in the upcoming state polls.
