Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s General Secretary Aadhav Arjuna said on Friday that the real story about the Karur stampede will be revealed once the Supreme Court delivers its verdict.
He urged people not to believe the “false and baseless accusations” that have been hurled at the party during the 16‑day mourning period for the victims of the tragedy that killed 39 people on September 27.
Arjuna explained that the party will fully use the legal system to seek justice after the mourning rites finish. “We’re waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision as ordinary citizens; the truth will come out,” he told reporters. He added that district secretaries have been arrested and that the party will push for their accountability.
The Supreme Court is currently reviewing several pleas tied to the event. A bench led by Justices J.K. Maheshwari and N.V. Anjaria has asked the Tamil Nadu government to file a counter‑affidavit in response to requests for a central probe. The court’s order will address arguments from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the families of the dead, and other parties.
TVK’s plea, presented by Arjuna, challenges the Madras High Court’s directive that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) should probe the incident, citing concerns over the state police’s independence. The plea also contests the High Court’s criticism of TVK leaders for allegedly failing to protect the public during the crush that left many injured.
The court’s final ruling is expected to shape how the investigation proceeds and whether additional authorities will be involved. For now, Arjuna stresses that truth and justice will prevail after the mourning period ends.
