Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar kicked off a new era for local farmers on Friday by inaugurating the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department building in Muzaffarpur through video conferencing. This move promises quicker access to government schemes via a handy single-window system, making life easier for those in animal husbandry and fisheries.
The fresh facility sits in Bhagwanpur, Muzaffarpur, and the launch event drew District Magistrate Subrata Kumar Sen, along with officials from the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Departments and others. They gathered at the Collectorate auditorium to celebrate.
District Animal Husbandry Officer Manoj Kumar Mehta called it a big win for Muzaffarpur. “We’re thrilled to offer this setup for farmers,” he said. The building boasts a single-window system to speed up scheme approvals, plus a conference hall and a dedicated training center.
Farmers need to complete training before tapping into these animal husbandry or fisheries schemes. Once trained, they can apply online and get the green light fast. Subsidies kick in at 40% to 90%, depending on the program. During the event, several farmers stepped up to share their success stories.
One farmer told , “I’d dreamed of starting a business for years. I dove into animal husbandry and fish farming, and the government gave me financial help plus guidance. I received Rs 18 lakh to get going.”
Another shared his win under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). “This scheme changed everything for me,” he said. “My project is worth Rs 7 lakh, and I got 50% from the government. Now I run two ponds on one hectare of land—it’s a game-changer.”
A third farmer added, “I was already raising 20 goats. The government chipped in with Rs 1.21 lakh, boosting my business big time.”
Bihar rolls out a range of state and central schemes to support folks like these. Unemployed graduates can grab financial aid through the Mukhyamantri Nishchay Swayam Sahayata Bhatta Yojana. Women entrepreneurs get a lift from the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyami Yojana, while the Mukhyamantri Kanya Suraksha Yojana helps girl children from below-poverty-line families. These initiatives are all about empowering farmers and families across the state.
