Police in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, have arrested and jailed 15 suspects linked to recent clashes that rocked the city. Authorities say they’re still hunting down the others involved, using CCTV footage, drone cameras, and on-the-ground tips to track them.

Superintendent of Police Manush Pareek explained that officers recovered bricks, stones, empty bullet casings, and even a pistol from the group. Many of these individuals live outside Bareilly district and have prior criminal records. “We’re sending them all behind bars,” Pareek added, promising swift action against anyone else identified.

The violence stemmed from protests outside the Ala Hazrat Dargah shrine and the home of cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, head of the Ittehad-e-Millat Council. Things turned ugly when demonstrators clashed with state police. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Inspector General Ajay Kumar Sahni confirmed that Tauqeer Raza, whom police call the main instigator, is now in judicial custody after his arrest.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath didn’t hold back in condemning the rioters during a public rally in Balrampur on Sunday. He referenced the police’s use of lathis to control the crowd in Bareilly and warned that troublemakers would face the same tough response.

“A few bad actors shouldn’t get to ruin our peace,” Yogi said, pointing fingers at those behind the unrest. He blamed them for Uttar Pradesh’s past struggles with corruption, lack of investment, and stalled development. “These are the same people causing trouble with new tricks now. But remember, we’re ready for you. You’ll get beaten just like in Bareilly.”

The chief minister also slammed posters proclaiming “I Love Muhammad” that some protesters carried, calling them a misguided stunt. “These fools are wrecking the futures of innocent kids,” he said. “Faith is about the heart, not showing off at street corners. Symbols of religion deserve respect, not this chaos. They’re already messing up their own lives, and now they’re dragging children into it.”

Yogi made it clear: his government won’t tolerate anarchy. “If anyone tries to break the law, we’ll send them straight to hell—no questions asked,” he warned. The remarks underscore the state’s firm stand against the Bareilly violence, aiming to restore calm in Uttar Pradesh.
