In a pivotal moment before Bihar’s November state elections, former Jahanabad MP Arun Kumar returned to the Janata Dal (United) (JDU) after a period of outspoken criticism of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The re‑induction took place on October 11, with JDU working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan, and state unit chief Umesh Kushwaha in attendance.
Arun Kumar greeted the crowd in his own words: “I’m happy to join again under Nitish Kumar’s leadership and serve the people of Bihar. Our state is on a path to development, and I assure everyone we will form the government in Bihar.” Several of his supporters also joined the JDU that day, strengthening the party’s base in the Magadh region.
Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lalan welcomed Arun Kumar warmly. He said, “We’ve been with you from the start. You were separated for a time, but now you’re back with us, and we’re excited to have you back in our family. This is your old home—welcome!” Lalan echoed the party’s confidence that Arun Kumar, alongside former MP Chandeshwar Chandravanshi from Jehanabad, would bring a powerful wave across Magadh.
Earlier this week, Lalan announced that the NDA coalition is poised to return to power in Bihar. “The election dates are set, and on November 14, the NDA government—led by Nitish Kumar—will be back in office,” he told reporters. The 243-seat assembly will be elected in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with results counted on November 14.
The union minister didn’t hold back on critics. He dismissed repeated claims by Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD that he will become chief minister again. “Everyone can dream, but the people of Bihar have already seen 15 years of governance under his parents,” Lalan said. “They will not be misled again.”
With the election calendar set and the JDU consolidating support around Arun Kumar, the political landscape in Bihar looks more competitive than ever. The coming weeks will show whether the NDA coalition can secure a majority and bring its development agenda to fruition.
