On Wednesday night, a speeding car collided head‑on with a van on the Nanded Bridge near Avle village in Madhya Pradesh’s Mhow district (now called Ambedkar Nagar). The crash turned deadly when the van’s gas kit ignited, setting the vehicle aflame and trapping the occupants inside.
Four people were killed in the fiery wreck. The victims, all residents of the nearby villages, have not yet had their names released. Two of them were identified: Pawan Singhwal and Kamle Gurjar from Manpur, who could not escape and were charred to death. Police say the other two victims are still in an undisclosed location.
A third car driver, also from Mhow, died at the scene after suffering critical injuries. The driver’s companion, though initially alive, later died during after‑care.
Two more people were injured but are receiving treatment. Among the injured were Golu (25) and Chetan (20) from Dharampuri in Basoda, and Sanjay (22) from Bagwana.
Eyewitnesses recount the fire spread so quickly that bystanders could only watch as the vehicle burned. The fire brigade arrived and fought the blaze, but the intensity left two bodies half‑burnt inside the van.
Police have opened a case to investigate the cause of the collision. They suspect that excessive speed and possible mechanical failure led to the loss of control on the bridge. The presence of a gas kit in the van has intensified concerns about vehicle safety on Indian highways.
Authorities plan a technical inspection of both vehicles and will review CCTV footage from the bridge to determine exactly what happened. Meanwhile, locals and drivers on the Nanded Bridge rushed to help the victims and call for emergency services.
