New Delhi – Senior Congress leader Kumari Selja blasted both the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the BJP on Wednesday, echoing Rahul Gandhi’s claim that 2.5 million votes were stolen in the recent Haryana Assembly polls. Selja demanded a clear response from the poll body and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the issue is urgent and cannot be dismissed.
The comments came minutes after Union Minister Kiren Rijiju called Gandhi’s allegations “false” and cited Selja and state chief Rao Narendra Singh as evidence of disunity that cost Congress the Haryana seat. When asked about the minister’s remarks, Selja said, “Don’t try to distract. Our internal matters are ours. The real question is what Rahul ji has exposed.” She urged the ECI and Modi to explain how “25 lakh votes” went missing.
Selja dismissed Rijiju’s reference to Congress’s internal troubles, insisting that the real problem is alleged tampering of voter lists. She accused the Election Commission of failing to stop fraud despite clear evidence from Congress. “Where is the ECI’s accountability? How can a BJP official from another state come and vote in Haryana with his family?” she asked.
Selja named case examples, including fabricated identities, duplicate voters, and altered ages and genders. “The faces stay the same, ages and genders shift. The ECI can’t keep hiding,” she said, accusing the body of running from responsibility.
The Congress is now looking into legal options, but Selja argues that the evidence already in the public domain has awakened younger voters to the ways their future may be manipulated. “The BJP and the Election Commission must answer. No diversion will work,” she added.
