Bihar’s latest assembly elections highlight how powerful the state is in shaping India’s politics. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won a landslide, earning a clear mandate to govern the third‑largest state in the country.
Most of Bihar is rural—about 89 % of its land is farmland, one of the highest rates in India. That rural population’s support for the NDA shows how well Narendra Modi’s government’s promises of development and dignity resonate with ordinary voters across the state.
Political analysts point out that the rural vote against the opposition reflects a backlash against the “politics of insult” that the INDIA bloc has tried to push. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has even mocked the state’s beloved Chhath Puja festival, calling it a drama. In contrast, Modi has championed the festival, pushing for Chhath Puja’s inclusion on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list—a move that earned respect for Bihar’s traditions.
Bihar has long been a reliable ally of the NDA. The state gave Modi strong support in the 2014, 2019 and 2024 general elections, and also backed him in the 2020 and 2025 state polls. This election’s results reinforce that bond, with the NDA sweeping most constituencies and decimating the Mahagathbandhan (grand coalition).
Voters chose leaders who honour their pride, culture and aspirations. They favored stability and dignity over politics that insults the state’s identity. The verdict sends a clear message: Bihar remains firmly in the NDA’s corner, supporting a vision of inclusive growth and rural empowerment.
These results also underline Bihar’s strategic role in national politics. A massive NDA win here boosts its influence beyond the state and signals to the rest of India that rural voters are still aligned with Modi’s development agenda.
