Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set for a two-day trip to the Northeast, starting Saturday, with a special focus on boosting development in Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam. In posts on X (formerly Twitter), he shared his excitement about bringing inclusive growth to these states, especially Manipur, which has faced challenges from ethnic violence since May 2023. This will be his first visit to Manipur since the unrest began.
Kicking off in Mizoram’s capital Aizawl on September 13, PM Modi will inaugurate the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway line. This exciting project connects Aizawl to the rail network for the first time, making it the fourth Northeast capital after Guwahati (Dispur), Agartala, and Itanagar to get this boost. Built across tough terrain with several bridges, the railway line promises to supercharge commerce and tourism in the region.
From there, he’ll flag off three new train services linking Aizawl to major cities: the weekly Sairang-Anand Vihar (Delhi) Rajdhani Express, the tri-weekly Kolkata-Sairang-Kolkata Express, and the daily Guwahati-Sairang-Guwahati Express. Accompanied by central ministers, PM Modi will also lay foundation stones for key projects like road developments, the Khelo India Multipurpose Indoor Hall, a residential school at Kawrthah, and the Eklavya Model Residential School at Tlangnuam. He’ll wrap up in Aizawl with public addresses to connect directly with locals.
Next stop: Manipur, where PM Modi heads to Churachandpur and Imphal. Here, he’ll interact with people affected by the violence and kick off major initiatives for Manipur development. Expect foundation stones for national highway projects, road upgrades, women’s hostels, and more. He’ll also inaugurate the Civil Secretariat at Mantripukhri, the IT SEZ Building, the new Police Headquarters at Mantripukhri, and a unique all-women’s market across districts. “We’re fully committed to inclusive and all-round development of Manipur,” he posted, highlighting how these steps will help rebuild and empower the state.
Wrapping up the day, PM Modi flies to Guwahati in Assam for the second half of his visit, from September 13 to 14. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the schedule, centered on the birth centenary of legendary cultural icon Bhupen Hazarika, a Bharat Ratna awardee. On Saturday evening, PM Modi will join the official launch of these celebrations in Guwahati, honoring Hazarika’s timeless contributions to Assamese music and literature that still inspire generations.
Come Sunday, September 14, he’ll unveil projects worth over Rs 19,000 crore across Assam, driving infrastructure and growth in the Northeast. This visit underscores PM Modi’s push for connectivity, development, and cultural pride in the region— a big step forward for Mizoram railway projects, Manipur inclusive growth, and Assam’s vibrant celebrations.
