Karnataka Home Minister Slams BJP Leaders Over Provocative Speeches in Maddur Stone Pelting Case

Tensions are running high in Karnataka’s Maddur after a stone pelting incident during a Ganpati immersion program. Now, Home Minister G Parameshwara has come down hard on BJP leaders MLC CT Ravi and MLA Basanagouda R Patil (Yatnal) for their alleged provocative speeches that stirred things up even more.

Parameshwara defended the police’s quick action, saying the BJP leaders spoke in a heated frenzy. Talking to reporters, he explained, "We’ve filed an FIR against both CT Ravi and Yatnal. From the start, we’ve urged everyone not to turn this into a political drama. The police will crack down on anyone breaking the law—no matter if they’re Muslim, Hindu, or anyone else. If stones get pelted, the cops step in. Let’s leave it to them to handle."

He didn’t hold back in condemning the speeches. "BJP leaders showed up and delivered fiery talks that crossed the line," Parameshwara said. "They used words they shouldn’t have, all for political gains. What did they really achieve? Nothing good comes from this."

The minister also backed the transfer of ASP Thimmaiah amid the Maddur violence in Mandya district. He pointed to internal security lapses as the reason. "When we spot mistakes in security, the department acts fast—be it an inspector or sub-inspector," he told reporters. "We take these issues seriously. Senior officials gather facts internally before deciding. I don’t make these calls alone."

On the other side, BJP MLC CT Ravi fired back at the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah. He accused them of "appeasement politics" after they withdrew criminal cases linked to the Hubballi police station rioting last year, where rioters tried to torch the station.

"Who pushed to drop those cases against people who attacked the police station? It was Congress folks," Ravi told . He also brought up last year’s petrol bomb attack on a Ganesh procession in Nagamangala, Mandya, claiming similar recommendations to withdraw cases.

Ravi argued that these moves by the Karnataka government have emboldened communal forces, leading straight to the recent Maddur stone pelting. "Some groups now think this is their government and they’ll get away with anything," he said. "That’s why the stone pelting happened. How bold did they get? Thanks to Congress’s appeasement tactics. The Hindu community won’t tolerate this for long—they’re done standing by."

The drama unfolded as police in Maddur registered an FIR against CT Ravi for his speech on Wednesday during the Ganpati event. Officials say his words, delivered via microphone to the crowd, targeted the Muslim community and could spark hatred between groups. Sub-Inspector Manjunath filed the complaint, and police took suo motu action to keep the peace.

This Maddur stone pelting incident highlights the ongoing communal tensions in Karnataka, with both sides trading blame over politics and law enforcement. Stay tuned as the situation develops.
