Tension Rises in Maddur After Stone-Pelting Incident During Ganesh Immersion
Bengaluru is buzzing with news from Maddur in Karnataka, where a shocking stone-pelting attack during a Ganesh idol immersion has sparked outrage. Hindu groups have slammed the incident and announced a bandh in Maddur town on Tuesday to protest. The area remains tense, with heavy police forces stepping in to keep things under control.
The BJP’s Karnataka unit has shared plans for a high-level team to visit Maddur on September 10. This comes amid growing demands from Hindu activists for the immediate arrest of the preacher involved and the sealing of the mosque from where the stones were allegedly thrown. They’re also pushing for a grand procession on Wednesday to immerse all Ganesh idols from the town together – and they’ve decided to add a DJ to the event, even though it goes against official guidelines.
To handle the volatile situation, authorities have deployed over 1,500 police personnel in Maddur. Senior officials like IGP M.B. Boralingaiah are on the ground, keeping a close watch to prevent any more clashes.
BJP Leaders Rally Behind the Cause
From Delhi, BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra addressed the media and confirmed the September 10 visit. He revealed that he’ll lead the panel, joined by opposition leaders like R. Ashoka, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, former Deputy Chief Minister C.N. Ashwath Narayan, and other party members. "We demand the instant arrest of the rioters in Maddur," Vijayendra said, highlighting how several people suffered serious injuries, including a lathi-charge on women.
Vijayendra plans for the team to meet victims and their families, offering moral support and boosting the confidence of the Hindu community. He didn’t hold back in criticizing the Congress government, especially the Home Minister’s remark calling the lathi-charge on women a "trivial incident." "It burns my conscience," he added, condemning the statements from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM, and Home Minister.
Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka echoed these sentiments, accusing a so-called "Tipu Gang" inspired by CM Siddaramaiah of committing atrocities. Speaking about the stone-pelting during the Ganesh festival in Maddur, Ashoka said, "We worship Ganapati as the remover of obstacles, but after Congress took power, they’ve brought distress even to Ganesh celebrations."
He drew sharp parallels to history, slamming, "Tipu Sultan imprisoned the Mysore royals, and now this Tipu Gang is up to no good. This isn’t Pakistan – we won’t stop Ganesh processions in public places." Ashoka warned that Hindus are forced to think about their safety, adding, "If Congress stays in power, there might be no Ganesh festival celebrations left. Anyone can use a DJ, but they block it for our festivals."
Plans for Protest and Fight Against Injustice
Ashoka confirmed he’ll join the Maddur bandh on Tuesday and discuss strategies with organizers. "We won’t let mini Tipu gangs grow. We’ll fight to warn the government," he declared. He’s already coordinated with the BJP district president and will finalize plans with the state president.
He also pointed out police inaction, saying, "I’m not from Pakistan to pelt stones at mosques, yet no real action against the culprits. Even if cases are filed, they’ll withdraw them – just like in the Hubballi riots." Ashoka vowed to fight for Hindus in Mandya, Mysuru, and Malenadu regions, similar to their efforts in Dharmasthala.
As the Maddur stone-pelting incident continues to make headlines, all eyes are on Tuesday’s bandh and the BJP’s visit. Stay tuned for updates on this Karnataka Ganesh festival controversy and the push for justice in the ongoing tensions.
