Delhi police have busted a ring of vehicle thieves in the Shahdara district, arresting two men and recovering eight stolen bikes along with six tampered engines. The crackdown highlights ongoing efforts to tackle vehicle theft in the capital.
Authorities identified the suspects as 29-year-old Ravi Kumar and 35-year-old Suresh. Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Gautam shared details of the operation.
It all started Wednesday when police got a tip about stolen vehicles moving in a tempo. A special team from Shahdara district, focused on stopping motor vehicle theft, swooped in at Kanti Nagar Red Light near Krishna Nagar police station.
They stopped a truck and found two scooties and one motorcycle inside—all believed to be stolen. The driver, Suresh, was arrested on the spot.
Questioning Suresh quickly paid off. He revealed a godown hiding more stolen goods. Police rushed to A-13, Harsh Dev Park in Budh Vihar, where they caught Ravi Kumar, the site’s owner.
A search turned up one more stolen motorcycle, six engines with altered numbers, and a grinder used to tamper with vehicle IDs. Following Kumar’s leads, the team hit another spot at Khasra No. 44/15 in the same area, seizing four additional stolen motorcycles.
Both men now face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During grilling, Kumar admitted he’s a scrap dealer running two warehouses in Budh Vihar Phase-3. He confessed to buying cheap two-wheelers—sometimes stolen—from spots like outside MCD Parking near Karkardooma Court.
Kumar said he shelled out just Rs 10,000 for three vehicles from a guy named Sumit. He routinely bids on bikes from across Delhi, breaks them down, and sells the parts. He even owned up to dealing in stolen ones to boost his scrap business.
This bust has cracked eight vehicle theft cases linked to police stations in New Ashok Nagar, Burari, Keshav Puram, Seemapuri, GTB Enclave, Anand Vihar, Kalkaji, and Madhu Vihar. Delhi’s fight against carjackers and bike thieves continues, with police vowing more raids to keep streets safer.
