Gaurav Gogoi Slams Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma as ‘Flop Leader’ at Rally
Guwahati: In a fiery speech at an election rally in Chirang district, Lok Sabha MP and Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi took strong aim at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Gogoi called him a "flop leader" who has let down the people of Assam despite holding power for years.
Speaking to a crowd at Panbari Higher Secondary School playground in the Manah Serfang constituency, Gogoi reminded everyone of Sarma’s big dreams. "He once promised to make Assam one of India’s top five states," Gogoi said. "But look where we stand today—among the bottom five. When Sarma handled education and health, both sectors took a major hit. His track record says it all."
Gogoi didn’t hold back on the BJP government’s failures. He accused them of breaking promises to give land rights to indigenous communities. "The BJP talked big about distributing land pattas, but they grabbed land for their own families instead," he charged. "They set up companies in their sons’ names, shut down local industries, and handed over 40,000 bighas of Assam’s land to big corporate houses."
The Congress leader also criticized Sarma’s style of governance, calling it full of cronyism and empty promises. He pointed out how the ruling party ignores key problems like unemployment, poverty, and skyrocketing living costs while making tall claims to fool people.
Gogoi highlighted a recent troubling incident in Dhubri’s Golokganj. He condemned the police for using lathi-charge on peaceful Koch Rajbongshi community members protesting for Scheduled Tribe status and a separate Kamatapur state. "This brutal attack on non-violent protesters is barbaric and unacceptable," Gogoi said. He added that the government shows no care for the struggles of indigenous groups and the youth.
Urging people in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) to wake up, Gogoi called on them to reject the BJP’s false promises. "Support Congress in the upcoming polls to safeguard the rights and dignity of Assam’s people," he said. His words resonated with the crowd, highlighting the ongoing political battle in Assam ahead of elections.
