Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant honored freedom fighter TB Cunha on his death anniversary during a moving ceremony at Azad Maidan in Panaji. Sawant called Cunha a true hero of the Goa freedom struggle and the father of Goan nationalism, who led the first push to end Portuguese rule in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Sawant shared his heartfelt tribute. “Today marks the death anniversary of TB Cunha, the hero of Goa’s freedom movement. On behalf of Goa and its people, I pay my respects. Goa will always remember him,” he said.
Just days earlier, on September 20, Sawant visited Bihar for the first time ahead of the state’s elections. He couldn’t hide his excitement about Bihar’s impressive transformation. Landing at the airport, Sawant said it felt like stepping into an international hub. “I’m visiting Bihar during the elections. As soon as I landed, I saw how much the state has changed. It felt like an international airport,” he told reporters.
Sawant plans to stay in Bihar for two days to ramp up the BJP campaign. He’ll meet with party workers and boost morale on the ground. Confident in the party’s prospects, he predicted a strong win. “The people of Bihar will definitely bring back the double-engine government,” Sawant declared, referring to the BJP-led alliance in the state and at the center.
During his trip, Sawant also fired back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent claims that democracy in India is under threat. Gandhi had voiced support for those fighting against it. Sawant countered sharply, pointing out that the real dangers to democracy happened during the Congress years. “The most dangerous times for democracy were under Congress rule,” he said.
