Hyderabad – In the Pocharam IT corridor on the city’s outskirts, a man named Sonu Singh, a known “gorakshak” (community protector), was shot Wednesday. The attacker is still unidentified.
What happened?
A vehicle halted near Yamnampalli, where Singh was traveling in a private car. An armed man chased him, forcing the driver to stop. The attacker then opened fire, striking Singh in the chest. He was taken to a private hospital in Secunderabad and is now undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital.
Police response
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu rushed to the scene. He said special task forces are now hunting the suspect. Police secured the area and removed the wounded officer.
Political reaction
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, Telangana BJP president Ramchander Rao, and MP Eatala Rajender all visited Singh’s hospital. They met with doctors to check on his condition.
BJP leaders have accused members of the Muslim “Islamic Movement” of targeting Singh after he intervened in a dispute over cows. Rao posted on X that “communal attacks like this show how the law‑and‑order system has collapsed.” He urged the government to arrest the culprits “immediately” and warned that failure to protect Hindus could cost the ruling party legitimacy.
“Such violent acts against a person working to maintain peace are tragic,” Rao added.
Current status
Singh is receiving treatment, but his injuries are serious. Authorities are increasing patrols in the Pocharam area to prevent further violence.
The case has drawn attention to rising tensions in the region and the need for swift justice. The government’s next steps will be closely watched by both local citizens and political leaders.
