Tadepalli, Andhra Pradesh—Former Chief Minister and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy blasted the current coalition government for what he called “gross negligence” after two tribal girls died in Parvathipuram Manyam district.
On X, Jagan said a collapse of the reverse‑osmosis (RO) plant at the Kurupam Girls Tribal Gurukul school forced students to drink contaminated water. The tainted water sparked a jaundice outbreak that killed two young girls in just four days and left many others seriously ill. The school, which serves 611 students, reportedly received no timely help from the state government.
“The government should have acted when the students were sick,” Jagan told reporters. “Instead, poor children keep dying while our leaders remain silent. Are we blind to their suffering?” he added.
Jagan reminded readers of his YSRCP administration’s achievements in education. Under the “Nadu‑Nedu” programme, his government supplied schools with infrastructure, electricity, fans, furniture, digital boards, safe drinking water, toilets, and RO plants. He bragged that the state introduced Amma Vodi (free school meals), English‑medium courses, a transition to CBSE and IB curricula, TOEFL training, tablets for eighth‑grade students, a subject‑teacher system, and nutritious lunch programmes.
Now, he says, that legacy is in ruins. He accused Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh, the current education minister, of colluding with private interests and systematically dismantling public education. “Because of your misdeeds, almost five lakh students have dropped out of government schools,” Jagan claimed.
He pointed to repeated incidents—hostel food poisoning, failure to repair RO plants, and unsafe school conditions—as routine government failures. “These deaths are nothing less than government murders,” he warned.
Jagan demanded that Naidu apologise to the bereaved families and called for immediate action. He urged the government to secure safe facilities in schools and protect children’s health. He also requested that each family of a deceased child receive ₹25 lakh in compensation, citing the deaths as direct results of government failure.
The incident has sparked outrage among community members and activists, who call for a full investigation and a review of school safety standards across Andhra Pradesh.
