As Bihar gears up for its Assembly elections, Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha brushed off the upcoming Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Patna, calling it irrelevant to the ruling NDA’s plans.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Kushwaha said the Congress bigwigs from Delhi are rushing to Bihar now because the polls are just weeks away. “After the election, they’ll vanish again,” he added. “This won’t touch the NDA at all. We’ll sweep the Bihar Assembly elections with a clear majority and keep the government in our hands.”
Kushwaha took a swipe at the opposition Grand Alliance between RJD and Congress, labeling it a self-serving deal that won’t stick in Bihar. He highlighted the confusion inside: RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav is already positioning himself as the next chief minister, while Congress insists the decision comes post-polls. “This mess shows they’re not on the same page,” Kushwaha noted.
The CWC meeting kicks off Wednesday at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna, drawing top Congress figures like party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and more than 170 key members. It’s a big show of unity for the party ahead of the Bihar elections.
Shifting to NDA internals, Kushwaha addressed Union Minister Chirag Paswan’s push for a strong seat share for his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) in the Bihar Assembly polls. “We get where he’s coming from—talks are moving smoothly, and we’ll lock in the formula soon,” Kushwaha reassured. Earlier, Paswan’s brother-in-law Arun Bharti suggested anything from 43 to 137 seats would count as fair play, based on the party’s past showings.
When Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor accused NDA leaders like Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, Ashok Choudhary, and Mangal Pandey of corruption, Kushwaha dodged a direct rebuttal. “Let the people named handle their own responses—they know best,” he said.
With political buzz heating up in Bihar, the Election Commission plans to roll out the voting schedule by late September, setting the stage for a fierce battle in the state Assembly elections.
