Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh gave a big thumbs-up to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s latest speech on GST reforms, urging everyone to get excited about the “Swadeshi” movement. In a post on X, Lokesh highlighted how Modi’s vision is bringing in GST 2.0—a simpler tax system with fewer rates, cheaper everyday essentials, and real benefits for women, consumers, and businesses across India.
Lokesh called these changes a “GST Bachat Utsav,” or festival of savings. “What used to be a tangled mess of taxes is now a celebration of savings for every household,” he wrote. He added that the reforms will boost investments, supercharge local manufacturing, and drive India’s overall growth.
Echoing Modi’s call for self-reliance, Lokesh encouraged people to proudly support indigenous products. “Let’s embrace his mantra: Garv Se Kaho Ye Swadeshi Hai—say with pride, this is Swadeshi,” he said, tying into the push for Made in India goods.
Earlier that day, PM Modi himself rallied the nation to prioritize Swadeshi as the new GST reforms kick in on September 22—the start of Shardiya Navaratri. “Turn every home into a symbol of Swadeshi,” Modi urged during his address. “Adorn every shop with Made in India products.” He stressed buying local to honor the hard work and sweat of India’s youth.
Modi described the GST reforms as a true “Bachat Utsav,” reflecting the government’s “Nagrik Devo Bhava” approach—treating citizens like gods. Combining these with income tax exemptions, he said, they’ll save Indians more than Rs 2.5 lakh crore in just one year. “That’s why I call it a savings festival,” Modi explained.
Focusing on self-reliance as the key to a developed India, Modi pointed out how lower GST rates and streamlined rules will help small businesses and MSMEs thrive. “To build a strong India, we must make what our people need right here at home,” he said. “MSMEs carry a huge responsibility in making India self-reliant. These changes will cut their taxes, boost sales, and give them a double win.”
Modi even linked it back to history, comparing today’s Swadeshi drive to the independence era. “Just as Swadeshi fueled our freedom struggle, it will power our economic prosperity now,” he noted, calling for widespread support of local industries and cottage businesses.
