In Gandhinagar on October 9, Gujarat’s chief minister, Bhupendra Patel, met in person with New Zealand’s High Commissioner, Patrick John Rata, at the first day of the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference held at Ganpat University in Mehsana. The conference spotlights new ideas for regional industry and has attracted leaders from around the world.
Rata applauded Gujarat’s innovative approach to industrial growth. He highlighted progress in key areas—agriculture, dairy, and the cooperative sector—thanks to earlier visits to Gujarat. The two leaders discussed ways to deepen ties with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Amul, and the State Agricultural University, while exploring how New Zealand’s expertise can boost agricultural productivity through aquaculture and tech sharing.
Chief Minister Patel and the High Commissioner were joined by senior officials, including Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, Additional Chief Secretaries M K Das, Anju Sharma and S J Haider, industry secretary Mamta Verma, and others. Their conversation underlined Gujarat’s commitment to a knowledge‑driven economy.
Later that week, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw—who also handles Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and IT—toured Gujarat’s booming semiconductor, electronics, and logistics sectors. He called Gujarat a “foundation pillar” of India’s 2047 development plan, citing about Rs 1,25,000 crore already invested in the industry. The minister mentioned flagship projects such as the Tata Electronics plant in Dholera, Micron’s manufacturing hub in Sanand, and new facilities by CG Power and KEC.
He also noted the arrival of roughly 30 Japanese companies setting up units in Gujarat to supply ultra‑pure chemicals, gases, and substrates. These materials, measured in parts per billion, set higher quality benchmarks for related fields like pharma and chemicals. The growing ecosystem promises not only job creation but also technology transfer and global competitiveness.
Gujarat’s focus on smart industry, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing positions it as a leader in India’s push toward a developed nation. The Vibrant Gujarat Conference, with its mix of local and international partners, continues to drive that momentum forward.
