On Gandhi Jayanti, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stepped up to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion.” He bought Khadi fabrics from shops in Ahmedabad’s Thaltej area, highlighting the importance of Swadeshi and local products.
This purchase aligns perfectly with the “Vocal for Local” and Atmanirbhar Bharat campaigns, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s office. Patel picked up Khadi for himself at Yash Khadi Emporium, run by Bharat Khadi Gramodyog Sangh in Thaltej, and at Om Khadi, a Khadi India outlet on Sindhu Bhavan Road.
Joining him were Deputy Mayor Jatin Patel, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Standing Committee Chairman Devang Dani, other municipal members, and local BJP leaders.
Earlier that day, to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary, CM Patel visited Kirti Mandir in Porbandar—Gandhi’s birthplace. He offered floral tributes and joined a prayer meeting. In his tribute, Patel praised how Gandhi’s hand-spun Khadi from cotton and the Swadeshi movement built the groundwork for India’s independence and guided the freedom struggle.
The press release noted that PM Modi’s push for self-reliance and prosperity through Swadeshi and “Vocal for Local” has fueled dreams of a developed, Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Patel also shared Vijayadashami greetings, celebrating the victory of good over evil, and honored Gandhi’s spirit as a selfless saint devoted to non-violence and a true global humanitarian.
He added that to honor Gandhi’s cleanliness ideals, PM Modi grabbed a broom himself, sparking a massive nationwide Swachh Bharat movement that inspires India and the world.
