Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel cheered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s latest Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms on Monday, calling them a big win for everyday savings. Speaking in Gandhinagar, he highlighted how these changes kick off right on the first day of Navratri, the vibrant festival honoring Goddess Amba and the power of Shakti—something PM Modi deeply respects.
Patel joined State Health Minister Rushikesh Patel on Saturday to launch 94 new 108 emergency ambulances, boosting healthcare access across Gujarat. After the event, he told reporters that these GST updates mark the start of a nationwide “GST Bachat Utsav,” or Savings Festival. “I pray at Goddess Amba’s feet for happiness, peace, and prosperity for every citizen,” Patel said. He urged everyone, from shoppers to shopkeepers, to pass on the lower GST rates to consumers and embrace self-reliance through Swadeshi principles. “Let’s proudly use and sell products made in India and Gujarat,” he added, pushing the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign forward.
PM Modi echoed these sentiments in a video address to the nation on Sunday, sending warm Navratri greetings. He tied the festival’s spirit to bold economic steps, saying the Next Generation GST reforms launch a savings drive that makes life easier for all. “This will help people save more and buy what they want without worry,” Modi noted. He pointed out that the benefits will touch the poor, middle class, young people, farmers, women, shopkeepers, traders, and entrepreneurs—spreading joy to every home this festive season.
Modi stressed that these GST changes will speed up India’s growth story. They simplify business rules, attract more investments, and let every state join the development race equally. Experts say the reforms ease tax compliance, cut consumer prices, and supercharge manufacturing in sectors like agriculture, automobiles, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and renewable energy. Overall, they aim to lower living costs, empower small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), expand the tax base, and fuel inclusive growth across the country.
