Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the Mahudi Jinalaya temple today to perform aarti for Lord Ghantakarna. The ceremony took place as he marked the launch of the Vikas Rath, a key event during the state’s annual Vikas Saptah celebrations that run from October 7 to 15.
While touring Mahudi, Patel offered prayers for the state’s prosperity, hoping prosperity, peace, and progress touch every citizen of Gujarat. The visit coincided with a flag‑off ceremony for the Vikas Rath, a motor‑bike parade celebrating local development.
Earlier this month, the CM announced an extra ₹576 crore grant to compensate local Gram Panchayats for the loss of Octroi revenue. Gujarat’s 20‑year‑old Octroi system was shut to boost ease of doing business, according to Patel. To keep rural projects on track, the state has provided over ₹576 crore in compensation grants in the past decade.
The Vikas Saptah week also featured a “Viksit Gaam, Viksit Gujarat” program in Rajkot. Patel greeted eight government bodies—including Panchayats—for their clean‑sweep excellence and honored four self‑help groups. He announced the payment of the additional Octroi‑compensation grant during the program.
Patel noted that the central government’s gradual increase of Finance Commission funds now strengthens rural roads, electricity, and water connections. The new Samras Panchayat incentives have helped 761 villages reach Samras status this year, accelerating village development.
Youth involvement in local governance is rising: nearly 42 percent of village leaders are in their 20s or 30s, and an increasing number of PhD holders now chair their panchayats. These steps underscore Gujarat’s push for modern, efficient, and inclusive rural administration.
