Gujarat will celebrate 24 years of rapid progress this week, marking the anniversary of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first year as the state’s chief minister. From October 7 to 15 the Gujarat government will host a week‑long “Vikas Saptah” (Development Week) that brings together leaders, students, farmers and ordinary citizens to look at the state’s transformation.

Key Highlights of Vikas Saptah

  • Thirteen themes, ten departments – Each day focuses on a different development topic, from industry and agriculture to education and health. The program aims to involve every segment of society, especially youth, women and farmers.

  • Bharat Vikas Pratigya pledge – A national pledge will be taken at the Legislative Assembly and at 34 district government offices. Citizens can also sign up online via the My.Gov portal. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will launch the pledge ceremony.

  • Youth empowerment starts on October 7 – A special session at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, will gather more than 1,000 students to discuss “Viksit Bharat@2047.” Similar meetings will run in 50 locations across the state.

  • Cooperative sector gratitude – The state’s cooperative institutions will mail one crore postcards to Narendra Modi, thanking him for reforms like GST and the Solar Rooftop Scheme. The postcard exhibition opens on October 7 at the Sabarmati Riverfront.

  • Job fair on October 8 – A statewide employment drive will issue letters to 50,000 youth and 25,000 ITI students, and the state will sign over 100 MoUs with industry to upgrade vocational training centers.

  • Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference on October 9‑10 – At Mehsana the conference will host a MSME conclave, entrepreneurship fair, vendor program, and a startup hackathon. Leaders will discuss how Gujarat’s growth can contribute to the “Viksit Gujarat@2047” vision.

  • Hands‑on projects in Rajkot, Ada, and other towns – The week will see foundation‑stone ceremonies for housing projects, panchayat development and rural development drives (“Vikas Rath”) across districts.

  • Ravi Krishi Mahotsav on October 14 – A farmer‑focused festival will include crop seminars, animal health fairs and tech stalls that showcase modern farming solutions.

  • Health and wellness initiatives – During the week, the Health Department will register 10,000 beneficiaries for the Namo Shree Yojana, launch 180 TrueNAT TB machines, train medical colleges in CPR, and host a mental‑health workshop on World Mental Health Day (October 10). For the elderly, 14,000 Ayushman cards will be issued under the Vay Vandana Yojana.

  • Education drive – Schools and colleges will run hackathons, essay contests, quizzes, mural‑painting workshops and a “Swami Vivekanand” exam center launch. A 100‑lecture series and webinars will support learning across the state.

  • Cultural celebrations – Daily Namotsav cultural programs, a podcast with cricketers Hardik Pandya and Tilak Verma, and a “Swachhta Shapath” pledge at every government office will keep the mood vibrant.

Why It Matters

Vikas Saptah is more than a celebration; it’s a showcase of Gujarat’s achievements and roadmap for the future. The week’s events highlight how the state’s policies—such as GST reform, Swadeshi initiatives, and smart infrastructure—have delivered tangible benefits to ordinary people. By engaging youth, farmers, and members of the cooperative sector, Gujarat aims to build a shared vision for growth until 2047.

As cities and villages across Gujarat participate, the Development Week underscores the state’s commitment to inclusive progress and the role that leaders like Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel play in driving change.
