Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat has taken on extra duties as the Governor of Maharashtra. This move comes right after CP Radhakrishnan stepped down from his Maharashtra role to become India’s new Vice-President.
On Sunday morning, Devvrat boarded the Tejas Express from Ahmedabad to head to Mumbai and start his new responsibilities. President Droupadi Murmu signed the appointment order, giving him this additional charge alongside his ongoing work in Gujarat.
The President’s office shared a statement explaining the change. It said that with Radhakrishnan leaving the Maharashtra Governor post due to his election as Vice-President, Acharya Devvrat steps in to handle those duties.
Just two days earlier, on Friday, CP Radhakrishnan officially took oath as India’s 15th Vice-President. President Murmu administered the oath at a special ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan. Right after, he honored leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, and Chaudhary Charan Singh by paying floral tributes at their memorials.
Radhakrishnan then visited the Parliament House Complex, where Union Ministers, Deputy Chairman Harivansh, and Rajya Sabha Secretary-General welcomed him warmly.
Remember, Radhakrishnan won the Vice-President election on September 9 as the NDA candidate. He grabbed 452 votes, beating opposition pick and former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy, who got 300 votes.
Before this big role, Radhakrishnan served as Maharashtra Governor. He also handled Jharkhand’s Governor position from February 2023 to July 2024. Plus, he took on extra charges as Telangana Governor and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor between March and July 2024.
This shuffle highlights key changes in India’s top leadership spots, keeping things smooth across states and the central government.
