Ahmedabad, Nov 18 – Gujarat’s chief minister, Bhupendra Patel, told a one‑day workshop in Gandhinagar that the state government’s goal is more than just running bureaucracy – it’s about real change that improves everyday life for citizens.
In his address, Patel highlighted how the Chief Minister’s Fellowship Programme can pair senior civil servants’ experience with fresh ideas from young professionals. He said this mix boosts public welfare and makes it easier to do business in Gujarat. “Good governance comes from combining the knowledge of our seasoned officials with the innovative thinking of newer talent,” he explained.
The Fellowship Programme started in 2009 under former chief minister Narendra Modi. Patel described it as a “platform for talented youth to help shape good governance.” He added that it has become a model for tech‑driven, efficient, and citizen‑centric administration.
Quoting PM Modi, Patel noted the prime minister’s focus on digital governance and reaching even the most remote villages with technology. He said Gujarat must benchmark itself against global best practices, and the Fellowship Programme is now one of the best ways for young people to contribute to state administration.
During the workshop, the state’s Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) and IIM Indore signed a memorandum of understanding. The partnership will build capacity in public policy and management. SPIPA director general Harit Shukla and IIM Indore director Himanshu Rai signed the MoU.
Chief Secretary M.K. Das praised the Fellowship Programme, saying its research and case studies strengthen good governance initiatives. He said the program has gained even more momentum under Patel’s leadership.
