Ahmedabad, Oct 19 – Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat marked a Sunday gathering that celebrated the indigenous cow and its place in environmental protection and public health. The event took place at the Nageshwar Kalyan Shakti Dham in Hirapur village, a site that began in 2005 to honor the cow‑devotee Devrishi Kallaji Rathod of Rajasthan.
During the ceremony, the Governor talked about Gau Poojan, Gau Sanvardhan and the growing trend of desi‑cow‑based natural farming. He praised the cow as “the mother of the world” and said that some studies from Australia and New Zealand find desi cow milk to be A2—rich in health‑promoting proteins—while foreign cow milk is often A1.
Devvrat also linked milk to learning. He said that children who drink desi cow milk can experience better cognitive function. Beyond milk, he pointed out that cow dung and urine contain useful microbes that help farmers grow crops without chemical fertilizers.
The governor reflected on a sharp drop in cow numbers. Once India had more cows than people—10 to 1—the future looks different. Many farmers now bear the cost of non‑milking cows. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi encourages scientists to find ways to boost calf births,” he said, noting that technology can help reduce the financial burden.
With environmental protection, natural farming can keep soil healthy, save water and protect wildlife. Research from four Gujarat agricultural universities shows that a natural cow‑based approach can sustain crop yields while doing less damage to the planet.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Rang Sanghachalak Bharat Patel urged young people to embrace cow‑friendly lifestyles. He suggested creating cow hostels and research centers. Mahalandaleshwar Akhileshdasji Maharaj applauded the state’s conservation work and reminded devotees that Gau Poojan holds spiritual meaning in India’s scriptures.
The gathering showed that the local community still values cows far more than purely economic reasons. They see cows as living symbols of health, environment and culture. The message from the governor was clear: protect the cow, protect the planet.
