The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, attended the 71st convocation of Gujarat Vidyapith in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. She spoke about the university’s historic role in India’s struggle for freedom and its ongoing mission to build a self‑reliant nation.

Murmu praised Gujarat Vidyapith as a “sacred land” that preserves the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. She urged the graduating students to honor Gandhi’s legacy by taking an active part in nation‑building projects. The President reminded them that Gandhi once called on students to work for the betterment of India, and she encouraged them to keep that promise alive.

The President highlighted the long tradition of self‑employment in Gujarat, and called on the students to spread that culture of entrepreneurship across the country. She said that making India self‑reliant is a national priority and that the youth of Gujarat Vidyapith will be key to the Swadeshi campaign.

She also stressed that education is the most powerful tool for social change. Murmu told teachers and students to model good character and moral values while linking classroom learning to local realities. She believed that such an approach would help shape responsible citizens who can contribute to everyday life and national progress.

Earlier in the day, the President visited the Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka, Gujarat, where she performed Darshan and Aarti. ()
