In Imphal, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla urged everyone to build stronger bonds between generations to create a kinder, more inclusive state. He shared these thoughts during the International Day of Older Persons event on Wednesday, marking IDOP 2025.

The governor made it clear that older people aren’t just people who need help—they play a key role in building society. Their wisdom, strength, and life stories offer priceless guidance for families and communities, helping everyone move toward peace and growth.

Bhalla pointed out how the fresh energy and ideas from young people can team up with the steady experience of elders to tackle local issues in Manipur and even bigger global problems. He stressed that treating seniors with dignity, respect, and inclusion isn’t about charity—it’s about justice. This push for intergenerational solidarity, he said, will help shape a more compassionate Manipur for all.

He also praised the Social Welfare Department for their ongoing work on welfare schemes that have truly improved life for senior citizens across the state.

This year’s IDOP theme, “Older Persons Driving Local and Global Action: Our Aspirations, Our Well-Being, Our Rights,” spotlights how elders actively contribute to society and fight for their place in it.

At the event, the governor handed out gifts, aids, and helpful devices to older attendees, showing Manipur’s strong commitment to senior citizens’ dignity and well-being. Chief Secretary Vineet Kumar Goel, the Social Welfare Secretary, seniors, students, NGOs, and other key figures joined the gathering.

Later, Bhalla led a meeting at Raj Bhavan in Imphal with organizers of the upcoming Mera Hou Chongba festival, set for October 7. This vibrant celebration strengthens unity between Manipur’s hill and valley communities, bringing together diverse indigenous groups for harmony and cultural sharing at the historic Kangla Fort.

The group discussed essential plans like transportation, lodging, and logistics to make the event run smoothly. The governor instructed officials to aim for an even bigger and more seamless festival this year. Joining him were Rajya Sabha member from Manipur Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, the Chief Secretary, Home Commissioner, and other top officials.
