Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stressed that development and environmental protection go hand in hand—you can’t have one without the other. Speaking at a massive tree-planting event in Faridabad on Thursday, he called the drive a key move toward balanced growth in the state.
Saini extended Dussehra greetings to residents and honored Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries with floral tributes. He highlighted plans to build a Birds of Green Corridor within the larger Green Biodiversity Corridor, alongside the plantation efforts.
The Chief Minister praised the strong turnout from locals, saying it shows Haryana’s shared commitment to protecting the environment. “This mega plantation drive will build a healthier ecosystem for our kids and grandkids,” he noted. Planting trees, he added, honors nature and boosts greenery for everyone.
Trees aren’t just timber, Saini emphasized—they’re essential for clean air, steady rainfall, and life on Earth itself. Without them, our planet faces big risks from global warming and climate change. “This campaign is our way of thanking nature and stepping up for a better future,” he said.
Faridabad serves as Haryana’s economic powerhouse, thanks to its entrepreneurs, traders, and hard-working laborers driving growth. But with all that progress, Saini said, it’s time to repay nature. “We’ve taken a lot—now we give back with thanks.”
He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, launched on World Environment Day in June 2024. Haryana smashed its first-phase goal of 1.6 crore saplings by planting 1.87 crore. The second phase, also targeting 1.6 crore, is off to a strong start: the Forest Department has added 1.45 crore, and other departments chipped in 50 lakh more. “We aim to make every inch of Haryana green,” Saini declared.
The state has rolled out the Green Aravalli Action Plan in southern Haryana, a joint effort with the central government covering Aravalli hills across four states. Haryana’s five districts are part of 29 targeted areas. To boost medicinal plants and greenery, officials have set up 56 Herbal Parks, four Nagar Vans (urban forests), and 18 Oxy Vans (oxygen forests).
Saini urged everyone—citizens, women, and children—at the Namo Van site to not just plant saplings but care for them too, becoming real guardians of the environment.
Revenue Minister Vipul Goel added that the Namo Van program ties into the PM’s tree-planting push. The chosen green belt was once littered with waste, but admin teams cleared it out. Now, it’s set to become a vibrant green haven. Under this mega campaign, teams will plant over 3.5 lakh saplings right away, with plans for 20 lakh more along Faridabad’s full boundary—turning the district into a giant oxygen hub for locals.
