In Chandigarh on October 19, Haryana’s Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini unveiled a new boost for sugarcane growers just before the Diwali celebrations. The state will raise the price of sugarcane by ₹15 per quintal, helping farmers earn a higher return on their crops.
The increase applies to both early‑and‑late‑season varieties. Early‑season sugarcane will now fetch ₹415 per quintal, up from ₹400. Late‑season cane also sees a lift, moving from ₹393 to ₹408 per quintal.
Saini highlighted that the rise is part of a broader push to protect farmers and lift rural livelihoods. He said the government is committed to the welfare of farmers, the underprivileged, youth and women. “Our policies are clear and transparent,” he told attendees at a ceremony in Panchkula on October 17, celebrating one year in office. “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Haryana’s development is moving at three times the former pace.”
The chief minister emphasized that all crops in Haryana now receive a Minimum Support Price (MSP). Over the last 11 crop seasons, the state has transferred more than ₹1.54 trillion directly to the bank accounts of 12 lakh farmers, a record that shows the government’s focus on the people who grow the food.
Saini also announced the passage of the Haryana Agricultural Land Lease Bill, 2024. The bill gives tenant farmers and landowners clear legal protections, restoring trust and preventing disputes over land ownership. Meanwhile, a new law will crack down on fake agricultural inputs. Anyone caught producing or selling counterfeit fertilizers, seeds or pesticides faces up to five years in prison.
“We keep farmers at the center of every decision,” Saini said. “Our aim is to create a fair, transparent, and prosperous farming environment for everyone in Haryana.”
The Sugarcane rate hike, the land lease bill and the anti‑counterfeit law are part of a series of reforms the government says will bring faster, more reliable incomes to Haryana’s farming community.
