The Haryana IAS Officers Association mourned the sudden death of senior police officer IPS Y Puran Kumar. The officer, who lived in Chandigarh, died by suicide on October 7, according to reports.
The association called the loss “tragic” and praised Kumar for his honesty and public‑service commitment. It also offered heartfelt condolences to his wife, Amneet P Kumar, an IAS officer.
The association urged the Haryana government and the Chandigarh administration to take prompt, serious action on the concerns raised by Amneet P Kumar. She filed formal representations to the Chief Minister of Haryana and the police on October 8 and 9, asking for justice and support after her husband’s death.
A key part of the appeal is the need for a fair, transparent investigation into FIR No. 319/2025, filed on October 6 at the Rohtak Police Station. The FIR contains allegations tied to Kumar’s death. The association wants the government to treat the matter with the gravity it deserves and to investigate it without bias.
In addition, the association is asking the Haryana government to provide Amneet P Kumar and her family with legal aid, protection and any other help they might need during this difficult time.
Chandigarh police have already set up a six‑member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the case. The SIT, overseen by IGP UT Chandigarh Pushpendra Kumar, is investigating the incident under Sections 108/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and 3(1)(r) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Its goal is to find out what led to the senior officer’s suicide and to hold those responsible accountable.
The association’s call for a transparent probe and support for the officer’s widow underscores the need for accountability and compassion in the wake of a tragic loss. The outcome of the investigation will be closely watched by officials and the public alike.
