Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge underwent a successful pacemaker implantation in Bengaluru on Wednesday, and he’s doing just fine. His son, Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge, shared the good news on X, saying the procedure was short and minor. “Sri Kharge has been stable after the procedure,” Priyank wrote. He expects his father to get back to work starting October 3 and handle all his upcoming events. Priyank thanked everyone for their support and well-wishes.
Earlier that day, Priyank had posted another update: Kharge was admitted to a Bengaluru hospital for the planned pacemaker procedure and was stable and feeling well. The 82-year-old Congress leader had gone in that morning for this routine medical treatment.
Despite the health scare, Kharge has a busy schedule ahead. He’s set to head to Kohima, Nagaland, on October 7 to speak at a big public rally at Naga Solidarity Park. Lok Sabha MP S Supongmeren Jamir, who leads the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee, announced the plans during a press conference in Kohima.
Jamir predicts at least 10,000 people will show up for the rally, themed “Safe Democracy, Safe Secularism, and Safe Nagaland.” It will spotlight key issues like youth employment, entrepreneurship, better governance, and improved road connectivity in the region. After the rally, Kharge will meet with senior Congress leaders, including members of the Political Affairs Committee, Pro-Committee, and District Congress Committee presidents.
This isn’t just a party gathering—it’s a major political push to tackle challenges in Nagaland and the Northeast. Jamir urged citizens, especially minorities, to join in and share their concerns, promising that Congress leaders will take those voices forward.
Kharge won’t be going alone. He’ll travel with top party figures like Congress General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal, Nagaland in-charge and Odisha MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, and others.
Jamir called the rally the kickoff to a wider Congress campaign in the area. The party plans to take a strong stand on issues like the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), governance problems, and constitutional rights. He added that Congress leaders are dead serious about these topics and might even team up with other political parties to protect democracy, secularism, and Nagaland’s future.
Akuonuo Miachieo, co-convener of the organizing committee and NPCC general secretary, called on everyone in Nagaland to cooperate and spread the word about the rally to every corner of the state.
