Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to head to Guwahati this Saturday evening for the big 100th birth anniversary celebrations of the legendary singer and Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika. But the Congress party isn’t holding back—it’s firing sharp questions at the PM’s visit, urging him to really connect with the soul of Hazarika’s iconic songs.
Modi will join the event around 5 PM and deliver a speech to the crowd, paying tribute to the cultural giant known for his heartfelt folk music that captured India’s spirit.
Congress leader Pawan Khera didn’t mince words while reacting to the news. Speaking to , he said, “If PM Modi truly gets even one of Bhupen Hazarika’s songs, he’ll understand the heart of this country. He’s not just there to show up as a guest—he needs to listen to the wisdom in Hazarika’s words. Take his famous song ‘Ganga’—if he absorbs every line, he’ll feel the real essence of India.”
Adding fuel to the fire, another Congress voice, Udit Raj, called out the visit as a smart political move ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. “Bhupen Hazarika has a massive fan base, and Modi’s presence at the centenary celebrations will definitely sway his followers,” Raj told . “It’s all about building a vote bank. The PM loves starting his election tours way early—sometimes a year or more before polls. These events are just a way to connect with voters in key areas like Assam.”
But the trip isn’t just about the celebrations. On Sunday, Modi will kick off a busy day of development work in Assam, launching and laying foundation stones for big infrastructure and industrial projects worth over Rs 18,530 crore. These moves aim to boost the state’s economy and create jobs.
Around 11 AM, he’ll be in Darrang district to start several projects and speak at a public rally. Later, at about 1:45 PM, Modi will inaugurate the Assam Bio-ethanol Private Limited and the Numaligarh Refinery Expansion Plant in Golaghat. He’ll also lay the groundwork for a new Polypropylene Plant there, promising a big push for industrial growth in the Northeast.
As Assam gears up for these events, the political buzz around Modi’s visit and Hazarika’s legacy is only growing—showing how culture and politics often mix in India’s vibrant democracy.
