Himachal bus accident: Nadda expresses condolences to bereaved families

BJP chief J.P. Nadda has sent heartfelt condolences to the families hit hard by a tragic road accident in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district.
The incident happened on Tuesday when a private bus carrying about 35 passengers from Marotan to Ghumarwin was struck by a sudden landslide in the Jhanduta area of Bilaspur. The mountain slide crushed the bus, leaving 18 bodies recovered so far and leaving most survivors, if any, in a very precarious situation.
Nadda took the news to X, saying the loss is “extremely heartbreaking.” He immediately contacted Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and asked for an update on the rescue and relief operations on the scene. He also urged opposition leader Jairam Thakur, state BJP president Rajeev Bindal, and local BJP workers to help the victims. The Bilaspur AIIMS administration was directed to provide urgent medical care.
State officials said heavy rains have been falling in the hills since Monday, causing intermittent falls and blockage on the roads. Machinery and rescuers have been cleared of debris and are searching for any passengers still missing.
Sukho’s office released a statement expressing deep sorrow, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi also offered his condolences. Modi announced an ex‑gratia payment of ₹2 lakh for each deceased family member to help alleviate their loss.
First responders and local police are still working around the clock to recover bodies, assist the bereaved, and secure the area. More updates will follow as the rescue operation progresses.
