Amit Shah, Gujarat’s popular Union Home Minister, celebrated the Gujarati New Year and his 62nd birthday in a lively house‑party at his hometown home in Ahmedabad. The event drew a crowd of top state leaders, party members and supporters who joined the Mohan‑Shah household for a warm night of greetings and celebrations.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, BJP state chief Jagdish Vishwakarma, Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, and a group of ministers, MLAs and councilors made personal appearances. They shook hands, handed out sweets and wished Shah a happy New Year. Outside, hard‑working party workers lined up to offer cheers and messages. The Home Minister is slated to attend more city functions on Wednesday and may meet newly appointed members of the Gujarat cabinet soon after.
While Shah hosted the festival beside his family, Chief Minister Patel visited the Gandhinagar cabinet building to wish his ministers and staff, keeping the state’s New‑Year celebrations alive across Gujarat.
Born in 1964 in Mumbai and raised in Ahmedabad, Amit Shah’s political journey began early with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). After earning a biochemistry degree, he joined the BJP in the 1980s as Narendra Modi was rising. Their partnership shaped Gujarat’s politics and later India’s national scene.
Shah’s knack for organising grassroots networks defined his early 1990s and 2000s work. As Gujarat’s Home Minister and later Law and Urban Development Minister, he became known for efficiency, data‑driven decisions and a deep connection with party members. He helped build the “Gujarat Model,” a mix of strong governance, tight law‑and‑order focus and meticulous booth‑level politics that gave the BJP an edge in the state.
By the mid‑2000s, he was Narendra Modi’s most trusted strategist. His booth‑management tactics, fine‑tuned voter segmentation and campaign micromanagement yielded landslide wins for the BJP. Even critics praised his precision. After Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, Shah moved to the national stage, serving as BJP President and later India’s Home Minister. Yet many in Gujarat say his political heartbeat remains in Ahmedabad.
joins the headlines of the year—Ahmedabad’s own Amit Shah celebrated new beginnings and another milestone, reaffirming his leadership role in Gujarat and across India.
