Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced Friday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will kick off the Yamuna Rejuvenation Project on September 30. This move highlights the government’s push to clean up the polluted Yamuna River and boost green initiatives in the capital.
The launch ties into “Seva Pakhwada,” a two-week service drive celebrating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. Gupta revealed that officials will unveil projects worth Rs 4,000 crore on that day, with the Yamuna cleanup plan taking center stage. She shared these details while opening a new solid waste-to-compressed biogas plant in the city, stressing the team’s dedication to reviving the river and tackling pollution step by step.
Gupta didn’t stop there. On Friday, she inaugurated a solar power plant in Rithala and a 100-tonne-per-day compressed biogas (CBG) plant paired with an integrated CBG-CNG fuel station at Ghogha Dairy. “This biogas facility shows Delhi’s strong step toward green energy,” she said, pointing out how it turns waste into clean fuel.
Just a week earlier, on September 20, she had launched a larger 200 TPD biogas plant at Nangli Dairy, building on the city’s eco-friendly momentum.
In a post on X, Gupta highlighted a new 25-kilowatt solar rooftop system on the Delhi Jal Board building in Rithala. “It will produce over 28,000 units of clean energy each year,” she wrote. “Soon, we’ll roll out advanced solar plants on more government buildings to ramp up renewable energy in Delhi.”
She also laid the foundation stone for a 66 kV grid sub-station in Mubarakpur Dabas. This upgrade will deliver reliable power to 16 feeder areas, including Karala and nearby spots. Plus, Narela now has a cutting-edge fire station stocked with modern gear and solid disaster response setups.
Gupta wrapped up by noting how these efforts fix longstanding issues while paving the way for growth. “Think of the flood-free Minto Bridge, e-buses zipping through streets, and garbage piles that keep shrinking—they’re clear signs of progress,” she said. “We’re committed to leaving no Delhi neighborhood or resident behind as we build a thriving capital and a stronger India.”
